Learning curves: chinese vs. japanese. by john pasden in featured post, language 25 jun 2008 . i am currently learning japanese language for fun,and i find the pronunciation to be easy while learning to pronounce new kanji,especially kanji in japanese names,could be severely difficult.. I’ve never tried learning chinese, but i have started learning japanese sign language and not only is my knowledge of the spoken japanese langauge and grammar structure been very helpful for this, my knowlege of kanji has been immensely helpful as sometimes the signs for words in jsl mimick the written kanji for the words.. However, japanese is a simple language to learn for a korean speaker, but korean is a challenging language to learn for a japanese speaker. i find that most koreans who learned japanese as adults would spend about 3 months to speak the language to the point of relative fluency. most japanese find it much longer to learn korean..
One should remember that chinese characters perfectly fit for chinese language, but not so for japanese, a language with complitely different grammatical structure. hence, a correct use of chinese characters in japanese is much more difficult to master, plus the grammar.. Korean - as much as i love k-pop and some k-dramas, the language (for me) is somehow difficult to learn . japanese - a bit easier to learn compared to hangul . chinese - i know the language since i was a kid because of some family members.
